DANCE THERAPEUTICS: SAVING YOUR BELLY DANCE BODY

Lower body focus. Drawing from Yoga therapy, Traditional Thai-Yoga Massage, Feldenkrais, Somatic education, partner yoga, and Deb’s personal “stash” of dance therapeutics, this workshop will deeply and safely help you increase spinal articulation, release the low back, hips, gluts, sacrum, and legs; dramatically increase ability for belly dance isolations and layering, and give you lasting tools for your own personal practice and dancer self-care. All of this will be applied to tribal fusion belly dance. A therapeutic daily series will be given for low back/hips. Some experiential anatomy and leading-edge somatic modalities will be offered to create optimal space, alignment and health in lower body, and directly support your belly dancing. A 'must have' in any dancer's toolkit.

THE ULTIMATE SLINK FACTOR

Next Level Slink! This workshop will begin with Deb's signature core-integrated yoga for belly dance warm-up as the foundation for slow/slinky tribal, with a focus on asana which will increase space and articulation through the upper thoracic spine/ribs/sidebody for maximum expression in the traditionally 'stuck' places. Class focus is on refining your torso and upper body technique, and new slow combos will be introduced to drill the concepts. Moving beyond the basics, however, this workshop edition will focus strongly on how to create deeper, core-integrated, jaw-dropping movement quality, suspension, and hyptonizing subtleties and transitions to bring your slow & slinky dancing to the next level of intoxication, presence, and decadence. She has been coined "The Queen of Slink". Come learn Deb's unique tribal stylization and critically-acclaimed teaching perspective of some of her favorite material.

GET YOUR GLITCH ON!

This workshop will focus on pops, locks, ticks, tocks, and glitch. Pulling both from belly dance and hip hop, we will explore the balance between sharp hits and controlled fluidity in your dancing. Be prepared to sweat! Class includes high-energy, multi-layered technique drills, and new combos inspired by the heart of the San Francisco Tribal Fusion scene, which has been a huge influence in Deb’s evolution, featuring music selections from some of the leading dub and electronica dj artists. (Also included: Deb will share her unique perspective in how she builds up a glitch dance combo from bassbeats to lyrical, in order to adequately represent the different instrumentation and feelings in the music with her body). *Some parts of this workshop featured on the CBS evening news, Las Vegas!

DECONSTRUCTING LAYERS:

THE RUBIX CUBE METHOD

The title says it all. In this workshop we will focus on de-constructing layering to make it accessible for all levels. Experience Deb’s intuitive teaching ability to body read, break down material and build movements back up from ground zero. Focus will be on drilling and cultivating clean, crisp hip work layered over graceful, fluid, traveling footwork patterns, and stylized torso isolations, with emphasis on “the tension of opposites” and interplay between smooth transitions/serpentine slink and sharp/controlled locks. Class includes Deb’s signature core-yoga for belly dancers warm up and new technique drills. Material will then be integrated into a new combo inspired by the heart of the San Francisco Tribal Fusion community in which Deb lives and dances. Please bring yoga mat and water bottle. *Be ready to Sweat!

UPCYCLED ANONYMOUS: REVAMPING TRADITIONS

WITH INNOVATIVE FLAIR

This workshop will focus of traveling moves, variations on the 3/4 shimmies, turns, tempo changes & dynamic transitions. The movement vocabulary & music is inspired by "old school" traditions (ATS & vintage belly dance - both of cabaret & tribal lineages), brought to you with a new fusion twist. Honor your roots & upcycle the stylizations to create fresh, new traveling combos that glide effortlessly across the floor, showcase layers, shimmies, & the balance between sweeping, earthy movements, & stylized, sharp torso isolations, focusing on seamless transitions between them all. Bring zills! Note: No yoga warm-up for this workshop. Technique drills to start & a cool down at the end to complete our day.
